I love getting these. It happens every couple of months. I go to a coffee shop or a little boutique, or maybe use a leased ATM and when I get the receipt it’s clear that the owner has never bothered to replace the default ‘marketing message’ with something specific to their business. Which is up to them, I guess.
It’s just ironic in the sense that no message at all would probably impart a more positive marketing message about their business than the default message that comes with the system. Or at least not do any damage. Let’s face it, it doesn’t inspire confidence to know that the owner could be bothered to modify the ‘marketing message’. Or maybe the system was just so stupidly designed that s/he couldn’t work out how to do it?
Just for kicks, and because I was pretty sure I’m not the first person to notice these broken till receipts, I Googled “This is line 1 of the marketing message” (in quotes), which turned up this November 2005 post over on This Is Broken. Ah well, maybe I’ll be original one day.
